Using Mother Teresa's words 'Let nothing perturb you, nothing frighten you. All things pass. God does not change. Patience achieves everything.
As a child as young as 9 years old, Marilyn had a dream to become a Missionary. Not sure exactly what that was but understood that it invloved helping people that have far less than she did. While in high school her English teacher had been a Missionary and that was where she discovered the real meaning. As we all know our life is planned for us and Marilyn went on to raise three wonderful sons and has a full and exciting life....But she always felt something was missing in her life. The need to walk and live with families.....to assist and share life's experiences with babies who don't know what it is like to be held...to discover their strengths and weaknesses.......to encourage children to know their full potential.......to realy just do something worthwhile, became a reality.
Marilyn read a book written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin called 'Three Cups of Tea'. Greg Mortenson was a great humanitarian and succeeded in builidng fifty five schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan to educate remote villages. He spent over a decade completeing this amazing task and in his book there is a quote 'It may seem absurd to belive that a primitive culture has anything to teach our industrialised society. But our search for a future that works keeps spiraling back to an ancient connection between ourselves and the earth, an interconnectedness that ancient cultures have never abandoned' Helena Norerg-Hodge
A Dream Comes True - With the amazing support and encouragement of her wonderful family and World Youth International Marilyn will commence a life long journey that has been laying dormant within, all her life.
World Youth International is a non political, non religious organisation that creates innovative and exciting opporunitites for people to live life passionately and contribute to the global community, enhancing quality of life, strengthening communities and reducing poverty through sustainable develpment projects. Marilyn is a volunteer and leaves for Kenya in August 2010 to embark on a 7 year project. She will be living, working and socialising with the community of Odede in a cross-cultural exchange of ideas, language, culture and customs.
Being aware that Fundraising is a big part of this type of work Marilyn did not want to ask people for money directly as we all know, it seems we are always putting our hands in our pockets as we Australians are extremely generous and always willing to help someone less fortunate.
So the Mums and Bubs Market was born!!! 100% of the hire fee of $25 to have a stall goes to Marilyn's project.
This is a way that Marilyn has derived to not only support her project but to support the local community. The Mums and Bubs Market offers families the opportunity to hire a table to sell new, pre-loved items for mums, babies & kids ie. clothing toys, books, prams, car seats, cots, maternity clothing shoes, etc.
Have a hobby that you would like to start promoting and earning an income, then have a stall at the Mums and Bubs Market.............
