Our Head Groundsman and the children24th August 2011I would like you to meet our Head Groundsman, Barack.........an amazing man that has supported me right from the beginning. A man that I could trust with my life and money, an man that I can depend on to be there and do what ever needs doing. Barack has 4 children of his own as well as supporting a handicapped nephew. He lives with his parents and extended siblings families. He shares his father's house and is saving to build his own house. It is a traditional thatched roofed house and he not only works 6 days full time and every second Sunday he also care for his own Shamba...................he grows Maize, Cotton and vegetables and surprise surprise his favourite thing he loves doing is agriculture...............He as you can see cares for our babies Shamba. He is watering the shamba with diluted urine from our Eco Toilet............which is why he has gloves on. As you can see our shamba is thriving. We already have fruit on our tomatoe vines and they are only 5 weeks old..........our Sukuma has the biggest leaves you ever did see and the spinach is so sweet..........truly, they are growing before our eyes. These two drums are full of Solid Waste..............they have been composted with ash after each individual use and once the drums are full they are stored in full sun, rolled every day and after approximately 6-8 weeks we will have perfect humus compost..................well that is the plan. We tested the PH balance the other day and all seems to be going well..............so keep your fingers crossed and hope it all works. You see the aim is that we waste nothing here in Odede.............. This is our wonderful Sukuma, the ones with the biggest leaves you ever did see. These are our Tomatoes, the ones that have fruit on them at 5 weeks old........amazing. Anyway that is Barack, a man I just couldn't do without. I love this quote "You can't make friends, you recognise them" Cheers - Marilyn Leave a Comment |
